About Margot

Margot Ciccarelli (Wikipedia) is a professional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete and coach, winning five World Championships in her colored belt career. She has trained martial arts for over 20 years, initially focusing on Kendo and Chinese martial arts (Wushu and Shaolin Kung fu). Born in the UK, she holds dual citizenship with Hong Kong and Italy. She is now a black belt under Murilo Santana of Unity Jiu Jitsu.

Despite discovering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the relatively late age of 18, Margot has become one of the top grappling prospects of her generation. Her style creates art with movement; aesthetically beautiful as well as effective. She conquered numerous World and European Championships as a colored belt in both gi and nogi, and is continuing that success at the black belt level. She’s known as “Mars” or “Margotchy,” hence the username @thenomadicmars (now @margotciccarelli) . She is supported by brands, including Higher Dose, Vanguard Kimonos, Caponutrition, ADAY, Arm Bar Soap Company.

Learning with Margot

Margot is rare in that she is also well-known and highly respected as a teacher, as well as a fierce competitor. Her instructionals are bestsellers on Jiu Jitsu X and her aim is to provide world class jiu jitsu coaching to anywhere in the world.

She has been invited to teach seminars in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, China, Taiwan and Brazil. She is an experienced teacher not just at teaching on a 1-1 basis and small group basis, but also for groups up to over 50 students from “it’s my first day!” white belts to competitive black belts.

Her approach as a teacher and a competitor combines her experience in martial arts and other movement disciplines (dance, contact improvisation), but also integrates her engineering background into deconstruction and evaluation. Each seminar and class is set up so that students can fully utilize the material across all of their practice, rather than just memorizing a new technique.

Her aim is to help her students accelerate their growth, set up their training for maximum results and take their technique to the next level. Through her unique insight as a world class competitor and cutting edge teacher, she encourages creativity and innovation to build a practice that is stimulating, challenging and healthy.

Mentorship Accelerator

Margot’s Mentorship Accelerator students range from white belts through to seasoned black belts. They are articulate and thoughtful practitioners, who are looking for a new challenge and a world class lens to help get the most out of their existing jiu jitsu practice.

This can range from performing at championship level to falling in love with jiu jitsu again by gaining a new perspective on the gentle art. As competitors, her students have medalled and won local and international tournaments, including IBJJF and UAEJJF World Championships.

Most Mentorship students use the program as an additional accelerator on top of an existing teaching relationship with a local school, perhaps for additional support for competition. With a few students, Margot oversees their entire training via virtual tuition and uke partners, with some also choosing for their belts to be promoted by Margot. This enables these students to get world class tuition no matter where they are in the world, especially effective when group classes are inconvenient or too remote.

The Mentorship is a personalized training program requiring commitment. It includes:

  • How to structure your training and optimize your learning

  • Homework (!)

  • Video analysis and breakdowns

  • Technique videos + technical guidance

  • Weekly check ins

  • Optional IRL sessions

Private Lessons

Private lessons are for up to two people and prices start at $250 per hour for a single lesson, with discounts available depending on the package purchased.

Margot also offers intensives for individuals and small groups to focus in depth with 2-3 sessions a day on multiple facets of jiu jitsu development. This can be especially helpful leading up to a major tournament or when deep diving on a new topic.
